Ides of March (2011) Review (-imdb link)

The Ides of March
[one_half last=”no”]I‘ll get straight to the point here – I love this movie. I wasn’t sure what to expect during the screening because I’m usually not a fan of political dramas and it’s the first Clooney-directed movie for me. The storyline was not only compelling and powerful, it was very interesting. This movie held my attention down to the very last scene. (We couldn’t stop raving about it after the screening!)

The cast performances were fantastic – I feel this was a very different role for Gosling to take on because the movie has such a serious tone, but he killed it! It’s great to see him grow into the A-List actor he is now. Clooney was amazing, as per usual and I’m convinced Philip Seymour Hoffman is one of the best actors working today. Paul Giamatti and Evan Rachel Wood also give great performances.[/one_half]

[one_half last=”yes”]The visuals also deserve some recognition – I loved the way it was shot – it really complemented the suspense and drama conveyed in the movie.

Overall, I would recommend this film! One of the best movies of the year and I’m sure there will be lots of buzz around it come Oscar time. 5/5.
