Well, ladies and gents… I did it!
At 27, I got my first Brazilian. And honestly? It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. But maybe that’s because I thought it was going to be like this:
… but on my pek pek (that’s Filipino for vagina and one of my favourite words lol)
So you can imagine how anxious I was leading up to The Appointment. Dun dun dunnnn!!
Where Did I Go?
I went to Allure Body Bar in Toronto (it’s at the Danforth) and yes, that is super freakin’ far from me, considering I live in Mississauga. Even though I work downtown, it’s still a bit of a subway ride (they’re right in front of Pape Station.) But honestly? WORTH IT! Full disclosure – their PR rep contacted me and they comped my visit. But that does not change my opinion (as usual) and I cannot deny that my experience was beyond what I expected (in the best way possible).
Alaa, who did my Brazilian (they call it a Quickzillian and can get you in and out in 8 minutes) was honestly amazing. From the moment I walked in the door, I was greeted with smiling faces.
The shop has a really easy-going and fun vibe. Also.. it was CLEAN!
Alaa introduced herself and she lead me to a room so I could get comfy and take off my pants, literally.
Different types of mild lotions, some wipes and kleenex are available to freshen yourself up
The Actual Waxing
Here’s the reason why I’ll keep going to Allure even after this review. Alaa made me feel SO COMFORTABLE! I mean, I’m not a shy person, but when it comes to your privates, we all get a little shy, right? I know I did. Especially because it was my first time. I really didn’t know what to expect, what to do or what would be happening! Like, do I just lay down and open up? Did I let my hair grow out enough? Will there be bleeding? Would it be weird if I started humming to myself for distraction? What about if I scream?
Thankfully, there was no humming or screaming necessary. Alaa walked me through the process and was very real with me. She answered my questions and we just talked. Like two girlfriends catching up – all the while she was giving me instructions (hold here, deep breath in… and out) and actually waxing hair off of my pek pek.
Did it hurt?
I’m not going to lie. It hurt like a bitch. But did it hurt as much as I thought it would? Honestly, no. I actually felt like getting my eyebrows threaded hurt more. The wax was not super hot when it touched me and she was quick! She was on point and put pressure on the newly-waxed area right away to stop the pain. I actually couldn’t believe it (remember I thought it was going to be like AHHHHKELLYCLARKSON) but I talked with her throughout the whole thing! No tears!
What Happens After?
Alaa suggested I put a mild lotion on and to try to “let it breath” for a bit (lol I know how funny that sounds.) Sadly, I was wearing jeans and had plans to see a movie that night so that was out of the question. She gave me a bunch of tips for after-care in order to prevent bumps and ingrown hair, including using an exfoliating glove.
Will I Stick To Waxing?
It’s been about a month since and I’ve decided to include it in my personal grooming schedule (like how you get your nails done or eyebrows waxed). There are honestly so many perks to waxing that I can’t believe I waited this long to do it. Number one perk? SOOOO SMOOTH! Not like how it feels after you shave either. I also like how the hair does not grow back thick or prick-ly. I can’t gush enough about it and I feel like that one kid who discovered it so late. I would highly recommend Allure for first-timers. You’ll find it hard to go back to plain ol’ shaving. (If and when you drop by, I’d appreciate if you’d mention that you heard of them from my blog! It’s really the only way I can find out if people actually go to places that I recommend.)
Where Can I Get More Info?
Allure has a bunch of really helpful articles on their site:
I hope you found this post helpful! It’s the reason why I decided to share this experience with you on the blog after all! I wasn’t too “TMI”, was I? Please feel free to ask me any questions in the comments or even email me (holler(at)beautyandabite.com).
How was your first Brazilian experience? Was it what you expected?!
Disclosure: I was not paid to write this review, but my first Quickzillian was complimentary. As always, my opinion is honest and mine alone.
