A few weeks ago, I was invited to an exclusive menu tasting at Milestones with some food bloggers and (to my surprise) some of the Milestones Executive team. It was really cool to talk to them about the dishes and really, my whole experience with working with them years ago. You see, I used to work at Milestones and I’ve always been a fan of their food, decor, culture… everything! My friends laugh at me because I’m kind of a Milestones fangirl (This isn’t my first time blogging about M-Stones, by the way.) It’s definitely one of my go-to spots and is the perfect balance between a casual and fine dining experience. They have a wicked deal that my girlfriends and I like to take advantage of – on Mondays, you get 4 bellinis + 4 appetizers for only $40!! Crazy, right?
So, naturally I was PUUUMPED to eat some yummy food and wine. (Spoiler: it was even better than I imagined.)
Please note that since this was a tasting, the dishes are much smaller than how they would look when you order them.
Crispy Quinoa Shrimp w/ summer slaw + chimichurri aoli ($9.99)
Weird texture at first (I’ve never had quinoa-crusted anything before), but the flavours really come out. The aioli and summer slaw work perfectly with the crunch of the shrimp.
Blue-Crab Cakes w/ summer cirtus salad + chipotle aioli ($11.99)
One of my favourites that night (I am biased though, because I love crab cakes). There are NO FILLERS in the crab cake and you can taste it. Very fresh and flavourful. The citrus salad was a little sweet for my taste, so maybe I’ll have them put the dressing on the side when I order this again.
Seared Ahi Tuna Tataki Salad ($18.99)
I was apprehensive at first (because I’m picky when it comes to seafood, since I eat so much of it), but I was impressed. The tuna was cooked perfectly (if you’ve had seared Ahi tuna before, you’ll know what I mean when I say it was like butta!) I also really liked the cooked egg and salad with it. GREAT price for the quality. This was my favourite dish of the evening.
Spicy Thai Basil Noodles ($18.99)
Again, I wasn’t sure how this would taste, but I loved it. The fresh lime wedges added a nice kick. Great flavour combo of creamy, sweet, savoury and tangy, but I felt like it could have used more spice. If you love spice like I do, order this “extra spicy”.
Surf & Turf ($27.99)
The “surf” is in the lobster sauce (drooling) and the lobster red skin mashed potatoes (which is too incredible for words. Wow.) Surprisingly, the onion ring was really good, too! Great choice if you can’t decide between seafood or steak!
Avocado + Lime Tart w/ brown sugar chantilly
I was, unsurprisingly, very full at this moment. But this dessert was everything I thought it would be and more. I love avocados (I’m sure you know this if you follow me on Instagram) and the lime was a welcome kick (reminded me of so many Filipino desserts with lime) and the brown sugar chantilly (you can’t see it too clearly, but it’s at the bottom there) was very intense and only tasted good w/ the pasty and avocado. This photo is also deceiving because it doesn’t show you how HUGE this tart is. It’s definitely a share-able dessert!
Overall, I had a great time! Milestones has always been the best of the “chain” restaurants out there because they’re really not like any of the other chain restaurants. They have a seasonal menu that changes and is put together by Executive Chef Jason Rosso and it feels like he’s right there in the kitchen making it for you because the team’s execution (nation-wide) is just THAT good. Oh and did I mention their staff is always on point? Super knowledgable and friendly? I should know because I used to be one!
Do you have a favourite “chain” restaurant? Or maybe you’re just as much in love with Milestones as I am? Either way, let me know which of these dishes you’re most likely to try! I can’t wait to go back and eat them full-size!
Disclosure: The meal was complimentary, courtesy of Milestones. As always, that doesn’t change my mind about it!
