A few days ago, my fiancé and I had a chance to try out a new Buytopia deal for Lo Zingaro on Queen W.

$35 for a 4 Course Italian Dining Experience for 2 People (It is an incredible deal for the food that you are served. You definitely get your money’s worth.)

The bar

Tables by the window

We went on a Thursday before a long weekend and Queen West was pretty dead. There were a couple tables in the restaurant and they weren’t very busy. But we like that because it usually means fast service! I imagine they get a little busier in the summer because of such a great location (and food, which you’ll see in a bit.)

First course: choice of 2 Antipasti (we ordered one of each)
Insalata Di Rucola
{Arugula salad, ovendried cherry tomatoes,shaved parmigiano, aged balsamic and extra virgin olive oil}

This was a lovely starter salad – great flavours and textures! I’m a big fan of arugula, but sometimes it can be overpowering in a salad, but the parmigiano and balsamic balanced it out very nicely. Great if you want to save all of your carbs for the pizza + pasta later on :)

Mushroom Suppli
{Rice ball stuffed with mixed mushroom, fior di latte and italian ham, served over spicy tomato sauce}

My mouth is watering as I look at these photos because this was delicious. Perfectly cooked and very cheesy. I am a big fan suppli and loved it. I didn’t think the spicy tomato sauce was very spicy though, but that might just be me.

Secondcourse: choice of 1 Pizza
(Margherita, Tonnara or Diavolessa)

We ordered the Diovolessa
{San Marzano tomatoes, spicy soppressata, hot chili pepper, pecorino romani, fior de latte}

This was the best part about our meal, hands down. Kris (that’s the fiance) and I love pizza. He prefers a North American pizza, but I love Italian and we both really enjoyed this one. It is the perfect size for 2 people (4 large slices) and was the perfect combo of cheese, spice, meat and sauce. And of course the crust was super thin and crispy.

I had to take a photo of it! We both already established that we’d be back for the pizza to try out other things on the menu, it’s that good.

Third Course: choice of 2 Pastas (we ordered one of each)

{PEI mussels, littlneck clams, garlic and chllie oil}

{Arugula pesto, black olives, oven dried cherry tomatoes and ricotta salad}

The pastas were the weakest part of the meal for me. I love that the portions are perfect – not too big like in most restaurants and not too small either and they were cooked perfectly as well (as I expect from every Italian restaurant). And although I love the simplicity of the Spaghetti, I found it a little bland. I also found the arugula pesto on the Linguine to be too bitter for my liking (I’ve yet to have an arugula pesto that I really enjoy). The olives and tomatoes had great flavour, but I felt the dish was unbalanced (too much flavour). If I had to choose one of the two, I would choose the Spaghetti.

Fifth and final course: choice of 1 Dolce
Tiramisu or Pannacotta

We chose the Pannacotta. I’m a big fan of panna cotta – what’s not to like? It’s creamy, light and refreshing! This one didn’t disappoint – I wanted to lick the bowl, man!

Overall a great experience and a delicious meal… all for $35! The value is insane! And even when the deal isn’t on, we’ll be coming back for the pizza during the summer after strolling around Queen West :)

Disclosure: As a Buytopia Inner Circle member, this meal was comped. But as always, that hasn’t changed my opinion about it.
