Dior recently revamped the iconic Rouge Dior Lipstick, thanks to Creative Director Peter Philips. The packaging is only slightly different from previous generations – the biggest difference is the inside of each cap is attired in the Rouge 999 shade, Dior’s sexy signature shade.
It claims to provide “16 hours of comfort without drying out your lips or streaking”. While it didn’t last me 16 hours, it did last longer than most lipsticks I own with no streaking and drying out. The formula is enriched with natural hydrating mango butter along with “Aroelat Samphira-the filling properties of hyaluronic acid spheres which combine for a volume effect on the surface of your lips.”
How does this compare to the previous formula? First off, I am a HUGE fan of this line, so I was really excited to hear they made some changes! I actually have a shade on “My Favourite Pink Lipsticks“. The first thing I noticed is that this new formula is extremely hydrating. Not the hydration that stays on top of your lips, but really gets in there. It glides on like a lip butter or gel. The consistency is creamy and luxurious and the colour pigmentation is pretty intense (med-to-full coverage). The one thing I don’t like about this line is that the smell is a little overpowering (it’s like a rosey scent). I don’t know if it’s just me, but I find the smell on this new generation is a tad more subtle, but it is definitely still there. Oh and with a $43 CAD price point, it’s an investment.
This one is my least favourite shade out of the four (and will be returning it). I think this shade is much too light for me and the pigmentation just wasn’t as strong with this one.
This one might be my favourite out of the bunch. It’s a natural-looking shade that’s perfect for fall. It’s a deep colour with amazing coverage – and did I mention how hydrating and creamy the formula is? Huge win!
Well, it’s not called “Exuberant” for nothing! This is a beautiful shade of deep pink. I think this would look amazing on dark skin tones.
The iconic 999 Matte – I am a sucker for red lipstick and I had to have this. Wow – it didn’t disappoint. This might be the first truly vibrant matte red that I have that doesn’t dry out my lips. I love the colour payoff. We’ll have to see if this can replace my all-time favourite red, Ruby Woo by MAC Cosmetics.
And here they are side by side, with the swatches on my arm.
