Yesterday, the Fiancé and I headed to Cheesewerks on Bathurst for date night, courtesy of Buytopia. They are running a WICKED deal – a 4-course menu with 2 glasses of wine for only $45! It’s honestly such a steal… cheese-lovin’ friends, take advantage!

love discovering new places to eat and I am so glad I got a chance to review this place. It’s a restaurant all about artisan cheese! It is a cheese-lover’s wet dream. I kid you not. I’ve got photos (lots of ’em!)

We had a chance to meet Kevin aka The Big Cheese, who owns Cheesewerks with his family. They’re at the restaurant almost every day, so it was awesome that we got to meet him and chat about cheese :) There’s him pouring our wine – everything at Cheesewerks is local, so of course the wine is from Niagara. Love that.

Yes, this was the first course. Kevin was telling us how simple the tomato soup was – literally just roasted tomatoes, garlic, thyme and some veg broth. And wow you can taste it! So fresh and so good! And the grilled cheese? One of the best I’ve ever had! 2 kinds of cheddar and the sourdough bread was perfection (it’s like they knew sourdough is my favourite on grilled cheese!)

Kris was shooting his tomato soup while I dunked – I say the dunking was better =P

I mean, look at that face. Kris captured this pic and we both thought it encapsulated my love for food perfectly! Hehehe.

Yes. That’s right — that’s a fondue for 2 people. It was massive! So many yummy things on the platter, we couldn’t wait to dig in.

PC060810

We were like, “aww our bread is kissing” LOL we are cheesy like that (pun fully intended!!)

PC060821

It was my first time having fondue at a restaurant so I was a wee bit excited lol

PC060832

When we finished the fondue, we took a little break from eating to play Uno. Kris and I are super competitive so we were trash talking like mad playing this… and BOO YEAH guess who won?! The left picture is me celebrating my win.

PC060755

They have a bunch of games for you to play! Such a chill place.

Alright and then the next course came. This ain’t no ordinary mac & cheese – it’s Asian! Come on, BBQ pork and hoisin sauce? Strange, but it was a magical combo. Kevin shared with us that their menu items are inspired by places that are important to him and his family – he and his partner were at the Beijing Olympics to celebrate their honeymoon! How cute, right? Anyway this dish was amazing and it was Kris’ favourite. It was nothing like I’ve ever tasted before and I already know I’m going to start craving it soon. And if you’re not a fan of food adventures, they have an original mac & cheese for ya!

We were so full at this point but this was the perfect ending to our night. The cookie was okay (I’m not a fan of ginger cookies), but the cheesecake and berries were amazing. Great flavours! Next time I’m in, I really want to try the Candy Bar Grilled Cheese – sweetened mascarpone, a candy bar grilled on sour dough. YUM.

After our meal, I snooped and took come pics – this is where the magic happens.

PC060791

And they also have baked goods from a local baker

AND they sell lots of things from other local businesses – love that!

Overall I’m a new fan – so much that I already want to go back. I love the focus on cheese, the laid back feel of both the restaurant and the people who run it. I read that they aim to be a foodie community hub – well, I think they’ve got that right!
