I was playing with make-up the other day (something I rarely get to do these days), trying to figure out how to do “Riot girl” makeup differently for FASHION’s Beauty Panel. I didn’t want to do the smudgey eye (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but I just felt like that’s what everyone would be doing. So I thought of inverting it and doing a black lip and super glowy skin.

Then I remembered one of Mila‘s videos where she wore a black lip using lip liner and BOOM! Inspiration nation. Big thanks to Mila – who I’ve actually been Internet-friends with for over a decade #LJdays – for sharing her creativity! (If you don’t know who she is, you better get familiar! Just check out her Youtube channel and you’ll see what I mean.)

Anyway, here’s my final look! (I was wearing my Jabra headphones because Kris was playing GTAV and he just passed me, so I didn’t want to get spoiled lol)

Lip – any black eyeliner (mine is from Avon) – was surprisingly easy to put on! Use Q-tips for precision.
Brows – I also used the black liner for my brows. I didn’t apply directly – instead, I used an angled liner brush.

FaceNARS tinted moisturizer in ‘St. Moritz’, Smashbox highlighter on the top of my cheeks and NARS Laguna for contouring. No blush or powder because I wanted it to be glowy.
Eyes – I used a shimmery white shadow from my Coastal Scents palette to the inside half of my eye and inner tear duct. Outside half and crease is a darker brown from the same palette. (I have a post on my fave Coastal Scents palletes coming.) Black pencil and liquid liner on my lash line and nothing on the bottom. When you “tightline” your lash line (that means using a liner to trace the inner part of your lash line), close your eyes and some product will rub off on the bottom part.

Funny thing is that I didn’t get to submit this to FASHION on time! lol I snoozed and lost my chance, but still check out what the other members of the Beauty Panel came up with, okay?

I never thought wearing black liner on your lips can ever be wearable, but here it is! Big thanks to Mila for the inspiration! I think it’s a great look for going out and gettin’ a little cray! What do you think? Would you ever try it?

well you definitely rocked that lipstick well :D it looks great on you!

  • that look is awesome. you’re lucky your skin tone with that lip colour doesn’t give you a “goth” look, but rather a punk rock look which is cool. i also love the smashbox cheekbone highlighter, softens the look amongst the dark eyes/brows/lips!
