Kris and I decided to do a photo shoot to pay homage to 10 years ago when we first started “dating” (if that’s what you’d call it at 15 & 16). We try to do photo shoots every now and then, but our schedules have been insane lately, so this one was extra special. (My 9-year anniversary post last year has a few photos).
This was also the first time in a long while that I fit into my high-school kilt! Okay, so I had to hike it up way higher than I did back then, but at least it buttoned up (before my weight loss, I couldn’t do that at all). It was so much fun trying to figure out poses that portrayed how we were when we first met… we were, quite literally, just a bunch of kids. We also had to borrow the text books from my sister & my cousin. (It really trips me out that we were their age when we started.. uhh, “dating”!)
I am sharing 5 on this blog, but we ended up taking hundreds! This was all I wanted for our anniversary (besides spending quality time together), but this boy gave me something that exceeded my expectations (and quite frankly, surprised the heck outta me!)
The morning after our anniversary, he proposed :) And of course I said yes.
I don’t want to give out too much detail, but it was all absolutely perfect. Very, very “us”. The ring is perfection and he took my breath away. He custom-designed the ring for me and he freakin’ nailed it -couldn’t have designed it better myself! It is vintage-inspired with a hint of LOTR (hee hee, I am a nerd I know). Much more than the actual ring is knowing the preparation that went into the whole proposal… this boy is too sweet to me.
We kept the engagement news on the down low because we wanted to tell our family and friends privately first. Seeing and hearing everyone’s reactions first-hand is something I will always remember. We even Facetime’d with one of our good friends in London to tell her the news – I love technology! It was incredible being able to personally share the moment with them. (And about 4 days later, we Facebook’d it and almost 2 weeks after that… here is the blog post!) I know it’s strange that someone who claims to embrace social media as much as I do was so resistant to sharing through it, but personal contact will always, always win for me. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made.
PS. One of the best perks of being engaged, especially after 10 years, is that people asking, “When’s the wedding?” is less annoying because it’s actually relevant now! :)
- These photos were taken on Oct 30th, before we were engaged.
- The tag formerly known as “boyfriend” is now “Love“. :)
- More non-lovey-dovey blog posts will be coming very soon!
XXXO, M :)
